Workplace Health and Safety Queensland
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is responsible for improving workplace health and safety in Queensland and helping reduce the risk of workers being killed or injured on the job. WHSQ enforces workplace health and safety laws, investigates workplace fatalities, serious injuries, prosecutes breaches of legislation, and educates employees and employers on their legal obligations. WHSQ also provides policy advice on workers’ compensation matters.
Electrical Safety Office
The Electrical Safety Office (ESO) has a primary responsibility for delivery of electrical safety services in Queensland.
The ESO develops and enforces standards for electrical safety, and promotes strategies for improved electrical safety performance across the community. The office facilitates socially responsible and safe electrical industry practices.
Private Sector Industrial Relations
Private Sector Industrial Relations (PSIR) provides advice to government on industrial relations legislation and policy, and facilitates its implementation. PSIR also represents government in industrial forums, and delivers compliance service and information to the community on industrial relations laws, awards and agreements through a statewide inspectorate and Wageline advisory service.
PSIR’s Work and Family Unit promotes the benefits for employers and employees of introducing family friendly work arrangements into Queensland workplaces. This is achieved through undertaking a range of promotional, consultancy, liaison and research activities.
Public Sector Industrial and Employee Relations
The Public Sector Industrial and Employee Relations (PSIER) division provides industrial and employee relations policy and services for the Queensland Government as an employer to ensure cooperative and productive workplaces. This underpins the delivery of proactive and accountable government and the achievement of service delivery outcomes for the Queensland community.
PSIER helps Government agencies and government owned corporations to achieve their business outcomes through the provision of high level strategic and policy advice on a variety of industrial and employee relations issues.
The division represents the government as an employer and assists in the negotiation of workplace agreements which maximise efficiency, effectiveness and service delivery. It also leads initiatives to make the Queensland Government an employer of choice, for example through ensuring employees have an enjoyable and challenging job and healthy work-life balance.
The division includes Workplace Consulting Queensland – a commercialised unit providing professional consultancy and training services to Queensland public sector agencies and entities on a fee for service basis.
