6.3 Hazard identification
Before carrying out work where you might accidentally encroach the exclusion zone, you should make an inspection to identify any potential hazards. Hazards may include:
- Bare exposed live lines;
- Broken down insulation;
- Deterioration of earthing of exposed conductive parts that are required to be earthed;
- Voltage of the line is higher than the expected low voltage; and
- Possibility of equipment, such as a portable powered saw, coming into contact with exposed live parts.
Note:
- If the overhead line is found to be a high voltage line, this section of the code does not apply.
- If the voltage of the line cannot be determined, the line should be deemed as a high voltage line and note (i) will apply.
- If you cannot determine whether the line is effectively insulated, the line should be treated as being bare.
