The Electrical Safety Amendment Regulation (No 1) 2008

Schedule 1 External Licences and Electrical Work Licence Equivalents

Section 32 of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2002 (PDF, 1.1 mB) refers to external licence equivalents and in particular to other jurisdictional equivalents to the electrical work licences as stated in Schedule 1 of the regulation.

Schedule1 lists all Australian and New Zealand equivalent licences to the Queensland electrical mechanic and electrical fitter licence categories. Holders of the listed licences issued by other jurisdictions are entitled to work as either an electrical mechanic or fitter in Queensland without the need for issue of any further licence. Without a current equivalent listed license, the electrical worker must go through the process of applying for and having an application for licence processed and a Queensland license issued before work can be undertaken.

It was recently determined that changes to the title and categories of license in New South Wales and Western Australia were not listed in the schedule.

As the issue of equivalency is a significant one in respect of qualified electrical workers moving to Queensland and for those working across state borders, an amendment of the listed licence types has been made by this amendment regulation which became effective from 20 November 2008.
