Recognition of prior learning
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is a form of assessment used to determine if a person has, through informal and formal training and experience, achieved the required competencies for exemption from a recognised training program.
Persons who consider that they are competent to perform the appropriate electrical work may apply for a restricted electrical licence in recognition of their prior learning.
Applicants will be required to provide documentary evidence of their training and experience, which will include:
- evidence of previous achievements
- references from persons familiar with their achievements (eg employers, supervisors etc)
- course certificates
- trade or other relevant qualifications
If the documentary evidence is not sufficient, applicants may be required to demonstrate their competence by means of a specially designed theory and/or practical assessment.
RPL assessment is carried out by an RTO.
