Electrical work licence (for apprentices)
You need to complete the application for an electrical work licence (PDF, 123KB) if you completed an apprenticeship – either recently or some years back – and want to perform electrical work in Queensland.
It is illegal to perform electrical work without a licence.
Take care in completing the form. Read the guidelines and provide all the information required. Incomplete or incorrect applications may be considered withdrawn. The Department of Justice and Attorney-General will retain some of the application fee to offset administrative costs.
What you need to include
- Your licence number, if you have ever previously held a Queensland electrical work licence.
- Your registration number, provided by your supervising registered training organisation.
- Proof of identity, if you've not been licensed in Queensland. Copies of documents such as birth certificate, passport, driver’s licence and Medicare care are useful, verified by a Justice of the Peace or similar. The application form provides details.
- Proof of current resuscitation skills eg. certificate.
- Proof of current resuscitation and rescue skills (eg. a certificate) for pole-top or transmission towers, if you are a linesperson.
- If you completed your apprenticeship within the last five years, check that your supervising registered training organisation has forwarded your completion statement to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, before lodging your application. The application form details further options if you completed your apprenticeship more than five years ago but weren't licensed, or didn't finish the apprenticeship.
- Fee as listed on the application form: cheque or money order made payable to the ' Department of Justice and Attorney-General'; credit card also available.
