Electrical work licence (permit holders)
Once you’ve completed your training under an electrical work training permit, you need to apply for an electrical work licence.
Performing electrical work unlicensed is unlawful.
You will need to fill out the application for electrical work licence (permit holder) (PDF, 101KB).
Take care in completing the form and provide all the information required. Incomplete or incorrect applications may be considered withdrawn. The Department of Justice and Attorney-General will retain some of the application fee to offset administrative costs.
What you need to include
- Your electrical work training permit number. If you don’t have one, you can’t use this form to apply for an electrical work licence. Call the Electrical Safety Office on 1300 362 320 for advice.
- Your personal details.
- Proof of competence in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) eg. current statement or certificate of attainment.
- If you’re an electrical linesperson, proof of competence in resuscitation and rescue at a pole-top or transmission tower eg. current statement or certificate of attainment.
- Fee as listed on the application form: cheque or money order made payable to ‘ Department of Justice and Attorney-General’; credit card also available. Note, if you complete training within six months of being issued with a permit, you won’t need to pay the application fee for an electrical work licence.
- Check that your supervising registered training organisation has forwarded your completion statement to the Department of Justice and Attorney-General before you lodge your application.
