Serving and non-serving defence force applicants

If you undertook trade training in the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Regular Army, or the Royal Australian Air Force, and have been issued with a relevant qualification, and you now want to work as an electrician or electrical contractor, you will need to have your skills and qualification assessed.

If you were issued an Australian Recognised Tradesman’s Certificate (ARTC), you can complete the application for electrical work licence (other than apprentice) (PDF, 163KB).

If you have not been issued a qualification, you will need to apply to Trades Recognition Australia (non-Queensland Government link) for an Australian Recognised Tradesman’s Certificate.

Trades Recognition Australia

Postal Address: GPO Box 9879, Melbourne VIC 3001
Telephone: 03 9954 2537

In either case you may be required to do some extra training via a registered training organisation with regards to your trade in order to qualify for a work licence.
