Hours of work

Most awards set the weekly maximum number of ordinary working hours, usually 38 or 40.

The days on which these hours are worked (for example, Monday to Friday), daily totals (for example, up to 10 hours maximum), and the spread of hours during which work is undertaken (for example, between 7am and 7pm) will also be set out.

Meal breaks are usually between 30 and 60 minutes and two 10 minute breaks mid-morning and mid-afternoon are generally allowed for.

Overtime and penalty rates may apply for extra hours worked or hours worked late or on weekends.
