Minimum pay
Queensland’s Industrial Relations Act 1999 (PDF, 1.9 MB) provides for a minimum rate of pay for all employees, whether or not you are covered by an award or an agreement.
In 2009, the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission ordered $568.20 as the Queensland minimum weekly wage rate for full-time adult employees.
Employees not covered by an award or agreement have their minimum wage established by the Industrial Relations Act 1999.
- Full time adults – employees aged 20 and over working full-time are entitled to the Queensland minimum wage of $568.20 (effective 1 September 2009)
- Juniors – employees aged under 20 are entitled to a rate of pay calculated as a percentage of the Queensland minimum wage based on either their age or experience (whichever is greater)
- Part-time and casuals – pay is worked out as the Queensland minimum wage divided by 40 for each hour worked
- Hours exceeding 40 per week – Queensland minimum wage divided by 40 for any hours worked in excess of 40 per week (whether full-time, part-time or casual)
