Queensland workplace agreements

A Queensland Workplace Agreement (QWA) is a written agreement between the employer and employee about work arrangements and overrides an existing award.

A QWA can be negotiated one-on-one or with a group of employees on the condition the person/s involved are 18 years old or older, must be mutually agreed to by all parties and be approved by the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

It is illegal to coerce someone into agreeing with a QWA or to be sacked for refusing to make a one. The contents of a QWA do not have to be kept confidential.
