Certificate of employment on termination
An employer, if asked, must provide a certificate of employment at the time of termination.
The certificate is important for those employees whose wage rates are determined by years of experience.
The certificate must include:
- full name and address of employee
- description of the trade or occupation in which the employee was engaged
- dates on which the employee started and ceased employment in each of the trades or occupations
- address of the workplace at which the employee was engaged.
The employer must sign and date the certificate.
An employer, by law, does not have to provide a written reference.
