Taxation

Employers are responsible for taking tax from an employee's wages and forwarding that money to the Australian Taxation Office.

The rates of pay provided in Queensland awards and agreements are expressed as 'before tax' or gross amounts.

Your 'take home pay' or net earnings can be calculated by referring to the Australian Taxation Office (non-Queensland Government link) for their taxation tables.

You will need to provide your employer with your tax file number (non-Queensland Government link) when you start your employment.
