Summary

Lisa Mary Dessman, an employer under the Industrial Relations Act 1999, was prosecuted for three breaches relating to the operations of her hairdressing salon at Tugun. Dessman did not pay an apprentice correct wages or pro rata annual leave on termination, and also failed to supply tools of trade to the employee.

The matter was heard ex-parte on 29 May 2009 in the Industrial Magistrates Court at Southport and the magistrate ordered Dessman pay the amount of $2,018.38 in unpaid wages, $1,414.34 in unpaid pro rata annual leave on termination and $130 in unpaid tool allowances to the employee.

The defendant was also ordered to pay $215.10 costs of court.
