National Partnership Agreement on Remote Indigenous Housing (NPARIH)
NPARIH is a $1.156 billion investment by the Australian Government over 10 years for housing reform in remote Indigenous communities throughout Queensland. The agreement will address significant overcrowding, homelessness, poor housing conditions and the housing shortage in remote communities.
The two key elements of NPARIH are:
- Residential Housing Construction — The construction of more than 1140 new houses.
- Building Upgrade and Maintenance — Significant upgrades and repairs to more than 1200 existing homes in remote communities.
In Queensland
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is working collaboratively with other Queensland Government Departments including Communities, Public Works and QBuild to ensure building contractors involved in NPARIH comply with the highest standards of occupational health and safety during construction activities in remote communities.
WHSQ and the WHS Board have adopted a Zero Harm at Work philosophy which simply means no harm to anyone, anytime while at work. For Queensland to become the healthiest and safest working state in Australia we ask Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and the construction industry working on NPARIH to accept nothing less than zero harm at work.
WHSQ has developed specific information below to inform and assist builders, tradespeople, contractors and communities to understand their workplace health and safety requirements and obligations as part of NPARIH:

- Construction safety plan assessment checklist (PDF, 190 kB) and site assessment checklist (PDF, 158 kB)
