Scaffolding Campaign 2009 - 2010
The campaign aims to increase the level of scaffold compliance in the construction industry through a coordinated national compliance campaign, aligned to the Australian Standard AS1576 - Scaffolding.
The campaign has been developed in response to an increase in scaffolding incidents in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria that have resulted in fatalities and serious injuries.
The initiative will involve all nationwide regulatory bodies auditing all scaffold types above two metres.
The campaign comprises of the following:
Phase 1: Compliance and audit inspections (August-September 2009)
This phase commenced on 3 August 2009 to provide a snapshot of the current levels of compliance with the erection and maintenance requirements of AS 1576. Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) inspectors are scheduled to undertake 200 state-wide inspections focusing on scaffolds above two metres.
The following checklists will be used by WHSQ inspectors to gather relevant compliance information as part of the inspections:
- Scaffolding Checklist (General) (PDF, 71 kB)
- Suspended Scaffolding Checklist (PDF, 71 kB)
Phase 2: Education (January-February 2010)
This phase will consist of providing information to scaffold companies, people erecting scaffold, end users, and builders regarding regulatory requirements for scaffolding.
Phase 3: Compliance and audit inspections (April-May 2010)
This phase will involve follow-up audits to assess if the level of compliance has changed in comparison with the phase 1 findings.
