Hazardous Industries and Chemicals Branch
(incorporating the former CHEM Services unit and Occupational Health and Chemicals Management Unit)
Welcome to the website of the Hazardous Industries and Chemicals Branch (HICB), a unit within Workplace Health and Safety Queensland - a source of information on the safe management of hazardous materials.
The Hazardous Industries and Chemicals Branch was created on 1 October 2008 by an amalgamation of two former units which dealt with hazardous materials, namely:
- the former CHEM Services unit which was transferred from Emergency Management Queensland in the Department of Emergency Services; and
- the former Occupational Health and Chemicals Management Unit which already existed within Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.
Many of the documents available here were developed by CHEM Services and still carry attributions and references to that unit. These documents will be updated progressively during 2009.
View our resource page for further information on hazardous materials.
We have Advisors who monitor industries that handle all types of chemicals; who train inspectors from Local Government and other agencies to ensure safe management of chemicals in order to reduce risk to Queenslanders.
Read all about us, read related legislation and some of our publications, and much more.
