Description: The Queensland Safe Work Awards recognise businesses and individuals for their safety solutions, no matter how big or small, that contribute to making Queensland workplaces safer so that workers return home to their loved ones each day.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland offers free safety workshops designed to help improve workplace safety and productivity, while reducing workplace injuries and their associated costs. The two hour workshops cover a range of topics:

  • Basic safety management system workshop
  • Risk management workshop
  • Safe work procedures workshop
  • Safe work method statements workshop (for high risk construction work)
  • Basic risk management for manual tasks workshop
  • Incident and emergency response workshop
  • Hazardous chemicals workshop
  • Monitor and review workshop

StatewideWorkshops for managers of young workers in retailMay 2012

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is holding state-wide workshops at Lutwyche, Mt Gravatt, Toowoomba, Townsville and Rockhampton for employers and managers of young workers in the retail industry

Young workers are often at a higher risk of injury than older workers because of their limited work experience, risk taking behaviour, and ongoing physical, social, emotional and intellectual development. In Queensland the retail industry employs more young workers than any other sector.

These workshops will improve employers' and managers' understanding of their young workers and how they function.

BrisbaneFatigue management on OHS performance in the workplace30 May 2012

Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia (HFESA) is hosting a special seminar presentation by Professor Drew Dawson, 'Fatigue management on OHS performance in the workplace'.

Professor Drew Dawson will discuss human performance, sleep, workplace fatigue and risk management, in particular attendees will learn:

  • how to 'fatigue-proof' their organisation
  • build the skills needed to undertake a comprehensive fatigue risk assessment of staff
  • about the latest in sleep research, and how sleep deprivation, fatigue, workload and shiftwork all impact on OHS performance in the workplace.

Professor Dawson is nationally and internationally recognised for his contributions to the scientific community and to industry in areas of sleep research, organisational psychology and human factors, industrial relations negotiations and implications of long hours of work.
