19.5 Annual inspections

An annual inspection by a competent person is required as part of re-registration requirements of the crane. Refer to section 5.2 of this code for further information.

An annual inspection should include all items specified by the crane manufacturer for annual inspection, as well as all items included in the routine inspection and maintenance programs.

Annual inspections include:

  1. the effective functioning and calibration of all limiting and indicating devices;
  2. detailed visual inspection and tolerance checking of all structural and wear components;
  3. checking of tolerances for wear limit;
  4. a detailed check for corrosion; and
  5. a detailed examination of critical areas for evidence of cracking.

A written report must be provided upon completion of the inspection.

An example of an Annual Crane Safety Certificate is provided in appendix 6 . This document may be used as evidence that the crane has received an annual safety inspection by a competent person.
