On 16 May 2007, an employee of Oaklands Farms Pty Ltd was conducting harvesting operations using a mechanical harvester towed by a farm tractor. When a harvester conveyor became clogged with dirt and produce, the worker attempted to clear the blockage while the harvester was still operating. The workers leg became caught in the operating conveyor of the harvester. |
Summary of undertakings:
- Develop and implement an occupational health and safety (OHS) management system consistent with the requirements of AS/NZS 4801:2001 and conduct a series of third party audits of the system with audit reports to be provided to WHSQ and audit recommendations to be implemented.
- Engage an OHS consultant to instruct and assist staff with the development and implementation of improved health and safety procedures.
- Develop and implement health and safety consultative arrangements within the workplace.
- Provide a range of specified occupational health and safety training to company employees.
- Develop an audio visual production explaining hazards associated with the incident and how they are now controlled.
- Assist other primary producers to improve their occupational health and safety performance through the provision of a range of training material, audio visual material and documentation packages.
- Sponsor an industry forum and a community business forum to deliver information regarding the circumstances of the incident and the benefits to be gained through a managed approach to occupational health and safety issues.
- Promulgate information about the circumstances of the incident within the company, the rural industry and the general community.
This undertaking has a total minimum expenditure of $60,000 (Including departmental costs).
