4.0 Required performance criteria
The performance criteria for the Workplace Health and Safety Accredited Auditor (Self-Insurance Audit) has been designed to reflect the competencies set in section 3.0 and derived from minimum levels of education/knowledge and experience.
Education/Knowledge
To demonstrate minimum competencies an applicant shall meet one of the following conditions.
- awarded a diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or higher qualification in a health and safety related area by a recognised institution.
- awarded a diploma in Occupational Health and Safety through the relevant Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.
Definition: 'health and safety related area' is an area of study or qualification that has a significant component of health and safety, eg. Diploma in Risk Management
Experience
In addition to satisfying the requirements for education/knowledge, an applicant shall meet minimum requirements in the areas of:
- workplace health and safety work experience
- workplace health and safety systems evaluation experience
(i) Occupational Health and Safety Work Experience
An applicant shall meet one of the following conditions:
- completed the equivalent of five (5) years full-time experience; or
- completed three (3) years of full-time experience if the applicant holds an Occupational Health & Safety degree, or any higher qualification in a health and safety related area.
This experience must include:
- a technical, professional or management position in Occupational Health & Safety;
- providing strategic advice on Occupational Health & Safety risk management systems;
- utilising and referring to current workplace health and safety legislation;
- the development or review of safe working practices;
- managing processes or staff in relation to Occupational Health & Safety.
(ii) Workplace Health and Safety Management Systems Evaluation Experience
In addition to the Occupational Health and Safety work experience, an applicant shall meet all the following conditions:
- Submit 3 examples of substantial Occupational Health & Safety risk management systems audits or evaluations undertaken on large and diverse enterprises or organisations. These evaluations can be undertaken in the applicant's own right or while acting as agent or employee of another.
- Present a proposal demonstrating:
- The ability to incorporate the concepts contained in the National OHS Tool for Self-Insurers.
- The ability to present the findings of such audits in a form to meet the reporting requirements of the published Performance Criteria And Guidelines For Workers' Compensation Self-Insurers Workplace Health and Safety Report.
