The new Recreational Diving, Recreational Technical Diving and Snorkelling Code of Practice 2010
In responding to the needs of Queensland's diving industry, the Queensland Government has decided to combine both the Compressed Air Recreational Diving and Recreational Snorkelling Code of Practice 2005 and the Recreational Technical Diving Code of Practice 2002 into a single code, the Recreational Diving, Recreational Technical Diving and Snorkelling Code of Practice 2010.

Ceiling hoists - a cost-effective solution to reduce people handling injuries in homes, residential aged care and hospitals
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and the HealthSAFE committee are running a ceiling hoist workshop on Tuesday, 9 March 2010, at the Education Centre of Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
Back and shoulder injuries continue to be commonplace in the health and aged care sector, with about half of all injuries due to people handling. Nearly 2000 people each year sustain injuries that could have been prevented by using simple lifting equipment.

Focus on Hendra virus continues
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland inspectors will be visiting horse-related businesses in Queensland in 2010, with a focus on horse veterinarians, in the ongoing campaign against the Hendra virus.
Inspectors will be carrying out assessments on how employers are managing Hendra virus risks, and providing information and advice to assist with Hendra virus risk management. The audit program will conclude in June 2010.

Workplace Health and Safety targets medium sized businesses
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland will visit every medium sized business in Queensland in 2010 and 2011 to check their compliance with the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 (PDF, 766 kB).
Businesses will be offered a free voluntary advisory session to identify workplace health and safety issues and develop better safety practices before the inspections take place.

Have you got your new occupational licence? Old style paper tickets are now illegal
Do you or anyone you know still hold old style paper tickets issued prior to March 1992 which have not been converted to the new licence?
If so, it is important to be aware that these old tickets are no longer valid and it is illegal to perform work in the occupations covered by those certificates.

Free workshops to boost the health and safety of workers in small businesses are being rolled out in Brisbane, Ipswich, the Gold Coast and some regional centres, including Cairns, Townsville, and Toowoomba.
