New and young workers in the hospitality industry

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and other workplace authorities across Australia have launched a national workplace safety campaign targeted at new and young workers in the hospitality industry.

New and young workers in hospitality have been selected nationally as a priority focus for 2008–09. The primary purpose of this campaign is to distribute occupational health and safety guidance information and investigate compliance with workplace health and safety legislation.

The Heads of Workplace Safety Authorities have developed a national information sheet to assist employers to provide healthier and safer workplaces and better understand their obligations to these workers. The information sheet also highlights new and young workers responsibilities as well in creating healthier and safer workplaces.

The national campaign, including compliance audits, is scheduled for completion in June 2009. Results of the campaign will be released following the audits.
