Element 10 - Emergency planning
Scope
This element deals with the systems that support the employer's capacity for adequate response in emergency situations.
The organisation is required to provide evidence (preferably in written form) that:
- A formalised emergency response plan including arrangements for evacuation has been developed taking into account the operational and geographical factors of each workplace;
- The emergency response plan contains procedures aimed at accounting for persons such as contractors and visitors to the workplace as well as workers;
- Appropriate equipment for emergency use is available, eg. fire extinguishers and special plant and equipment in case of toxic spills;
- There are procedures in place that ensure review and upgrading of any emergency plan to accommodate changes in the workplace and surrounding environment.
