Element 3 - Suppliers sub-contractors and purchasing controls
Scope
The activities of persons supplying goods or services to the employer's workplace can impact on operations compromising the company's standards and procedures. This criterion covers the applicant's arrangements to deal with this risk.
The organisation is required to provide evidence (preferably in written form) that:
- the employer is aware of all obligations pursuant to legislation such as the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 (PDF, 766 kB) or other applicable statutes;
- in relation to specific obligations pursuant to such legislation, the system requires contractors/suppliers to conform to the company's workplace health and safety standards and procedures;
- the purchasing system takes account of these standards and procedures and requires appropriate authorisation as a prerequisite to ordering goods and services; and
- the company has appropriate systems in place to meet any specific obligations pursuant to the relevant legislation. Examples are the multiple obligations of designer supplier and manufacturer under the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995.
