Element 4 - Health and safety consultation
Scope
This element is concerned with the employer's ability to systematically identify health and safety issues emerging at both industry and workplace levels.
The organisation is required to provide evidence (preferably in written form) of:
- The ability of the employer to consult within its own workforce as part of the management of the health and safety aspects of its operations, eg. the adequacy of the method used to address the information and consultative needs of an employer will depend on the size, complexity or diversity of operations;
- The functions of a Health and Safety Officer, Health and Safety Representatives or Health and Safety Committees or similar consultative arrangements being considered for their appropriateness across the organisation;
- work processes being carried out with full knowledge of current information as to health and safety effects of such processes, eg. the use of industry and government data may be appropriate.
