Healthy Lifestyle Program for the Queensland Public Service

In September 2008, the Queensland Government launched the new plan for the state Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland. Toward Q2 is Queensland’s blueprint for the future detailing five ambitions, including the priority area of health, with the goal to cut obesity, smoking, heavy drinking and unsafe sun exposure by one-third by 2020.

With the Queensland Public Service comprising of over 230 000 people, government agencies can lead by example to demonstrate healthy eating, physical activity, quitting smoking, and improving on issues such as sun safety, mental illness and other health-related issues.

The Healthy Lifestyle Program for the Queensland Public Service (PDF, 638 kB) provides a practical guide for government departments and agencies to break down barriers to healthy behaviours and incorporate the healthy lifestyle program guidelines into their planning processes.

Healthy choice catering (PDF, 1.3 MB) guidance has also been developed as an important strategy to influence the catering choices, and therefore eating behaviours and overall nutrition, of public service workers.
