Safer and Healthier Workplaces 2007-2012 framework

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) continues to monitor the workers compensation performance of public sector agencies through the implementation of its Safer and Healthier Workplaces 2007-12 (PDF, 106 kB) framework (the framework).

The framework is the current Queensland strategy for improving workplace health and safety performance across the public sector. It was released by WHSQ in July 2007 and focuses on the three major issues that directly relate to improving workers compensation claims performance:


Safer and Healthier Workplaces 2007-12 reflects the Australian Government's Safe and Sound strategy (non-Queensland Government link) that details five crucial areas for improvement in public sector workplaces. These five areas are:

  1. Management commitment
  2. Accountability measures - targets
  3. Health and safety systems review and improvement
  4. Executive information
  5. Incentives

Health and safety systems review and improvements are assessed against five key elements and 13 health and safety criteria using the Organisational Assessment and Improvement Tool (PDF, 312 kB). To assist government agencies improve their health and safety management systems a standing offer arrangement (SOA) has been put in place to identify a number of providers to perform health and safety management audits.

The addition of performance criterion within the framework to advance healthy lifestyle programs in the public service (PDF, 638 kB) reflects the government’s commitment make health and wellbeing a priority for all Queenslanders.
