Areas beyond the retail workplace

In some circumstances, the areas beyond or surrounding a retail workplace may pose greater security dangers for an employee.

Risk factor

• Duties that require an employee to access or pass through car parks and rubbish bin areas

Suggested measures

• Roster certain activities during low risk periods (e.g. during the day, not at night)
• Install additional lighting to certain areas
• Engage security personnel
• Establish security procedures such as a 'buddy' system
• Provide personal alarms
