Doors, windows and roofs
Doors, windows and roofs are potential entry points for offenders. Ensure that any security measures comply with fire service regulations.
Risk factors
- Poor quality or faulty locks on doors and windows
- Unprotected glass areas
- Access points in the roof
- Visible locks on exterior doors
Suggested measures
- Fit quality hinges, bolts and locks (manual or electronic) to windows and external doors
- Install peepholes in external doors
- Install locks that are not visible on external doors, and less likely to be drilled in an attempt to gain access
- Protect glass windows and doors with grilles and security films
- Replace ordinary glass windows and doors with toughened or bullet proof glass
- Add height markers at exit points to help identify offenders
- Place barriers between glass areas and the footpath to prevent ¿ram raids¿ (eg. bollards, large flower pots and concrete benches)
- Install metal grilles above the ceiling to prevent access through the roof
