Staff training
It is essential that employees are trained in the use of security equipment and cash management procedures, and are prepared in the event of an attempted robbery. Training also helps employees to 'read' the behaviour and body language of people entering their workplace.
Risk factors
- New policies and procedures introduced without staff training
- New technology implemented without staff training
- A new, untrained employee
- Language difficulties involving a new employee
Suggested measures
- As soon as a new employee starts work, provide comprehensive training in cash management procedures, emergency response and the operation of all security equipment
- Cater for the needs of employees with English as a second language
- Provide regular refresher training
- Provide additional training for supervisors and managers (e.g. how to recognise trauma, how to provide emotional support to employees, and how to liaise with police and media)
