General safety
When using chemicals:
- Assess each chemical used, looking at how often each is used and for what purpose.
- Provide MSDSs to all workers using the chemicals and train them in health and safety requirements and risks involved with the chemicals.
- Compile a list of features relating to the use of chemicals for workers including:
- how the chemical enters the body (nose, mouth or skin);
- what personal protective equipment is needed;
- symptoms if a person is affected;
- actions if a person suspects they have been affected by a chemical.
- Ensure all spray equipment is operating as designed.
- Develop and maintain safe work procedures to protect workers and members of the public from exposure.
- Conduct a risk assessment for each new chemical before it is introduced to the workplace and prepare a safe work procedure.
- Provide washing facilities and a lunch room well away from chemical stores.
