Update your existing paper ticket

All 'old style' paper-based tickets issued in Queensland before March 1992 which have not been converted to the new licence formats are now invalid. If you hold an 'old style' paper ticket, which you have not converted to the new format, you must do so before you can legally work in the occupation/s for which you hold paper tickets.

If you have continued to work in the occupation/s during the last five years and have retained your competencies, you will be able to convert to the new licence/s usually without the need to obtain a statement of attainment or assessment summary. However, in some instances a gap assessment may be required where the paper-based licence class does not translate directly to the new licence/s.

Depending on the occupational class, generally the paper ticket will either convert to a plastic non-renewable certificate or a photographic and renewable licence.

Convert all paper tickets to the new licence types by 30 April 2010 by applying to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.

How to make your application

You can apply by completing the Application for an Earthmoving or Particular Crane Certificate or a High Risk Work Licence (paper-based certificate holders) (PDF, 167 KB) form using the instructions provided. Alternatively you can contact the Workplace Health and Safety Infoline on 1300 655 986 (licensing enquiries only).

Send the application form to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, PO Box 820 Lutwyche, Qld 4030 or hand it in at a Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) regional office counter.

Please read the instructions on the application form carefully as it will require you to submit particular documents to enable your application to be progressed. While a fee is payable for each certificate, you will be notified of procedures for payment after your application has been evaluated.

Once WHSQ receives your application, they will evaluate your paper ticket certificates to establish if they fall under the nationally harmonised High Risk Work (HRW) licences or under the Queensland specific Earthmoving or Particular Crane (EPC) certificates (e.g. loadshifting equipment).

For HRW licences, WHSQ will provide you with a conversion letter which can be taken to an Australia Post outlet for issuing of a new high risk work licence.

For EPC occupations (e.g. loadshifting equipment), you will be issued with an invoice detailing the fee for each certificate class. Once payment is received for each certificate you wish to continue, new plastic certificates will be issued directly from WHSQ.
