Definition of plant

Schedule 3 of the Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 2008 defines plant as:

• machinery, equipment, appliance, pressure vessel, implement and tool;
• a component of plant and a fitting, connection, accessory or adjunct to plant; and
• specified high risk plant (unless otherwise stated).

The following items of plant are a specified high risk plant:

• airconditioning unit
• amusement device
• cooling tower
• escalator
• LP gas cylinder
• lift

Certain types of plant will require a registration of registrable plant design.
