Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) held over 50 events state-wide, spreading the week’s theme of Healthier and safer workplaces. Healthier and safer workers to almost 2300 Queenslanders.
The nine major events saw 23 safety partners supporting SWAW and 10 ambassadors. We extend a very big thank you to all partners and ambassadors for their support and involvement in 2009. We look forward to Safe Work Australia Week 2010!
Every year approximately 100 people die and 30,000 Queenslanders are seriously injured at work. Overall, total workplace incidents cost the Queensland economy over $5.2 billion each year. This means that on average 577 Queensland workers suffer a serious work-related injury or disease every week.
Safe Work Australia Week (SWAW), now in it's fifth year, is a national week which focuses attention on workplace safety issues. It aims to encourage all working Australians to get involved in, and concentrate on, safety in their workplace to reduce death, injury and disease. Visit the national website (non-Queensland Government website).
Queensland's theme for 2009 is Healthier and safer workplaces. Healthier and safer worker. The theme links to the Queensland Government's Toward Q2 strategy.
