CS Energy Ltd
CS Energy is a Queensland Government energy provider that owns and manages power stations that supply Queenslanders with electricity.
In 2010 CS Energy's lost time injury frequency rate reached a level well above industry best practice. This prompted a review and enhancement of CS Energy's health and safety management system.
A 15 strong Health and Safety New Direction Taskforce was established to improve the organisation's safety system with a strong focus on consultation, training and frequent updates to all staff members.
CS Energy's Health and Safety Management System includes a revised health and safety policy and manual supported by new approaches including:
- six non-negotiable rules known as 'Life Savers' to protect the health and safety of workers
- principles and procedures for incident investigation
- a five year health and safety strategic plan including key performance indicators
- employee resources including a personalised pocket guide.
As a result of the system CS Energy has seen lost time injury frequency rates reduce from seven to two over the last 12 months. The system has also seen a reduction in the number of incidents, improved risk identification and mitigation, established a safety culture and strengthened the organisations reputation in the community.
