Queensland Rail
Queensland Rail is a government owned corporation which manages 8,000km of rail network and provides suburban commuter services in Queensland.
To ensure the safety of workers and eliminate the risks associated with high voltage overhead line electrical equipment installation on Queensland Rail construction sites, Queensland Rail made improvements to their 'isolation and authorisation process'.
The improvements were developed by Queensland Rail workers and electrical traction engineers and include a 'Site Earthing Plan' and 'Access Authorisation Work Package' to control access of workers entering construction sites. The process clearly outlines the electrical safety risks and the necessary safety controls for workers entering sites.
To further manage safe access, Queensland Rail introduced a 'Traction Construction Access Permit.' The permits are issued to authorised persons responsible for maintaining the site's safety and on completion of work, are cancelled.
The improved process offers greater control over access to the site and provides extensive information about safety controls to eliminate electrical related risks.
