A Code of Practice for Traffic Management for Construction or Maintenance Work has been developed to assist people manage health and safety risks posed by traffic to workers and other people while construction or maintenance work is being done on, or adjacent to, roads.

The code will enhance road worker safety through the identification and subsequent mitigation of specific hazards associated with working on, or adjacent to, roads in relation to construction work. It will also provide a broad base for uniformity in the use of traffic control devices at all worksites across Queensland.

The code commenced on 1 September 2008.

About the compliance campaign

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) conducted a state-wide audit campaign in March and April 2009 to establish industry compliance with the Traffic Management for Construction or Maintenance Work Code of Practice 2008 (Code).

WHSQ inspectors visited static sites, sites with low impact works and mobile works randomly selected across Queensland to assess compliance with the health and safety benchmarks identified in parts two, four, six, seven and eight of the Code.
