The Honourable Cameron Dick, Attorney-General and Minister for Industrial Relations announced the winners of the 2009 Work Safe Awards on Tuesday October 27 during Safe Work Australia Week (October 21 - 31).
Entries were received from all over Queensland and winners received $1000 in prize money to put towards health and safety initiatives in their business.
The 2009 winners are:
WINNER - S&N Civil Constructions Pty Ltd - Townsville
S&N Civil Constructions have implemented a new integrated safety management system which has had a significant impact on improving commitment to safety in the workplace.
WINNER - Frook Pty Ltd - Townsville
The Frook, developed by Ken Jaffers and Peter Stevens is a safer, faster and more cost effective method of temporary bracing when installing trusses on buildings.
WINNER - John Harris - Phoenix Drilling Services, Capella
John Harris has developed an innovative process that eliminates work-at-height risks when topping up compressor radiators.
WINNER - Stanwell Corporation Limited - Brisbane
Stanwell Corporation has developed and implemented a procedure to manage arc flash hazards through the use of arc flash registers and electrical panel door labelling.
Winners of categories 1-4 will be automatically entered into the national Safe Work Australia awards to compete against winning entries from each state and territory.
