For most people, the most treasured moments of their lives happen outside of work, which is why it’s so important to come home safely. This was the theme of this year’s Work Safe Week.
The message was simple – an accident at work doesn’t just affect you, it also affects your family and friends.
Another focus of this year’s Work Safe Week was how to reduce injuries caused by slips, trips and falls. These are among the most prevalent of injuries in the workplace and accounted for 15% of all serious injury claims during the 2004-05 financial year.
That’s why we were encouraging people from all parts of the community to make a personal commitment to making safe workplaces by getting involved in Work Safe Week and putting workplace safety high on their agenda.
Getting involved in the annual Work Safe Week can be as easy as holding a safety talk over morning tea, putting up some posters or having a competition that encourages people to think about safety in the workplace.
Participating in Work Safe Week helps to improve safety and reduce workplace death, injury and disease.
