What is a derrick crane?
A derrick crane is a slewing strut-boom crane with its boom pivoted at the base of a mast which is either guyed (guy-derrick) or held by backstays (stiff-leg derrick) and which is capable of luffing under load.
To be competent to operate a crane the person should be able to:
- Assess and secure equipment and work area
- Secure and transfer load
- Set up and dismantle mobile or tower cranes
- Carry out special operations with mobile or tower cranes
