Training for Provisional Improvement Notices

The Workplace Health and Safety and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2008 (PDF, 601 KB) provides for elected Workplace Health and Safety Representatives (WHSRs) to issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs), where they reasonably believe, that a person is breaching or has breached a provision of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 (PDF, 766 kB) or regulation in circumstances that make it likely that the breach will continue.

In order to issue PINs, representatives must complete approved training. The Approved course in issuing workplace health and safety Provisional Improvement Notices (PINS) for Workplace Health and Safety Representatives (standalone PINS course) is now available for registered training organisations.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has developed guidance material relating to issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and how to undertake consultation.

Information for registered training organisations (RTO)

The course is designed for WHSRs who have completed 30630QLD, a Course in Functioning as a Health and Safety Representative.

Those persons who have not completed 30630QLD will receive training in the issuing of PINS when 30630QLD is amended to include this standalone training course.

Registered training organisations (RTOs) or prospective RTOs wanting to deliver the standalone PINS course must undertake the following steps:

The licence outlines the requirements on RTOs in relation to delivery of the standalone PINS course and the right of audit by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.

Step 2: Obtain approval to deliver course

Approval is granted on the basis that as an organisation you have, Scope of Registration as an RTO to deliver 30630QLD - Course in Functioning as a Health and Safety Representative from the Department of Education and Training .
