What is basic rigging?
The scope of work for basic rigging (and dogging) includes:
- movement of plant and equipment
- steel erection
- particular hoists
- placement of pre -cast concrete
- safety nets and static lines
- mast climbers
- perimeter safety screens and shutters and
- cantilevered crane loading platforms
Basic rigging does not include:
- use of load equalising gear
- rigging of cranes, conveyors, dredges and excavators
- tilt-slabs
- all hoists with jibs and self climbing hoists
- demolition
- dual lifts
- rigging of gin poles and, shear legs
- flying foxes and cableways
- guyed derricks and structures and
- suspended scaffolds and fabricated hung scaffolds
The basic rigging certificate encompasses the requirements for the dogging licence (certificate). It is preferable that an applicant for the basic rigging licence (certificate) already holds a dogging licence or has previously passed a practical skills assessment for the dogging licence. Otherwise the assessment for an applicant for the basic rigging certificate must incorporate the requirements of both the dogging and basic rigging licence assessment.
To be competent the person should be able to:
- plan and prepare work
- complete rigging work
