What is intermediate rigging?
It is preferable that applicants for the intermediate rigging licence already hold a basic rigging licence or has previously passed a practical skills assessment for the basic rigging licence. Otherwise the assessment for an applicant for the intermediate licence must incorporate the requirements of both the basic and intermediate licence assessment.
The scope of work for intermediate rigging (and dogging) includes:
- movement of plant and equipment
- steel erection
- all hoists
- placement of pre -cast concrete
- safety nets and static lines
- mast climbers
- perimeter safety screens and shutters
- cantilevered crane loading platforms
- rigging of cranes, conveyors, dredges and excavators
- tilt-slabs
- demolition and
- dual lifts
Intermediate rigging (and dogging) work does not include:
- rigging of gin poles and shear legs
- flying foxes and cableways
- guyed derricks and structures and
- suspended scaffolds and fabricated hung scaffolds
The intermediate rigging licence (certificate) encompasses the requirements for the basic rigging certificate. It is preferable that an applicant for the intermediate rigging licence already holds a basic rigging licence or has previously passed a practical skills assessment for the basic rigging licence. To be competent the person should be able to:
- Plan and prepare work
- Complete rigging work
- Demolish structures and/or plant
