What is advanced scaffolding?
The scope of work for advanced scaffolding includes:
- Prefabricated scaffolds
- Tube and coupler scaffolds including tube and coupler covered ways and gantries
- Scaffolding associated with perimeter safety screens and shutters
- Cantilever hoists
- Ropes
- Gin wheels
- Safety nets and static lines
- Bracket scaffolds (tank and formwork)
- Cantilever crane loading platforms
- Cantilever and spurred scaffolds
- Barrow ramps and sloping platforms
- Mast climbers
- Hung scaffolds, including scaffolds hanging from tubes, wire ropes and chains
- Suspended scaffolds
It is preferable that an applicant for the advanced scaffolding certificate already holds a basic and intermediate scaffolding certificate or has previously passed a practical skills assessment for the basic and intermediate scaffolding certificate. Otherwise the assessment for an applicant for the advanced certificate must incorporate the requirements of the basic, intermediate and advanced assessment.
To be competent the person should be able to:
- Plan and prepare work.
- Erect scaffolding/equipment.
- Inspect, repair and alter scaffolding/equipment.
- Dismantle scaffolding/equipment.
