Premier launches Zero Harm at Work Leadership Program

The Zero Harm at Work Leadership Program aims to build a positive safety culture in Queensland workplaces to help reduce the number and seriousness of workplace health and safety incidents.

The program was launched on 16 September 2009 by Premier Anna Bligh and the Honourable Cameron Dick, Attorney-General and Minister for Industrial Relations.

The launch was attended by over 250 of Queensland's senior leaders from business, industry associations, unions and the public sector. The beginning of the program also was announced in Parliament the same day.

In her speech, Premier Bligh indicated that the Queensland Government would work with forum members to make the new workplace health and safety program a success. Mr Dick explained that the program aimed to improve health and safety in all high-risk industries across Queensland by changing attitudes from the top down.

Tragically every year approximately 100 people die and 30 000 Queenslanders are seriously injured at work. Total workplace incidents cost the Queensland economy over $5.2 billion each year.

The Zero Harm at Work Leadership Program is an initiative of the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Board. Through committing to share innovation, knowledge and experience with others, industry leaders who sign up to be members of the program can make a significant contribution in raising the standards of workplace health and safety across the state.

Since the launch, a number of new organisations have joined the program. The names of all members can be found on the Zero Harm at Work members page.
